Patrick O'Hara, Jr. was named Chairman of the Oklahoma Bar Foundation Grants & Awards Committee for the 2016 grants and awards cycles. Patrick has served on the Oklahoma Bar Foundation since 2014. The Oklahoma Bar Foundation (OBF)is a nonprofit organization founded in 1949 by members of the Oklahoma Bar Association (OBA) to accomplish law-related charitable good works statewide. The OBF provides grant funding for:

  • free legal assistance to the poor and elderly;
  • safe haven for the abused;
  • protection and legal assistance to children;
  • law-related education programs for the public (including Oklahoma school children);
  • law student scholarships for those we expect to follow our charge;
  • other activities that improve the quality of justice for all Oklahomans.

  • Attorneys Participate in Mock Trials

    TISDAL & O'HARA attorneys Luke Adams and Carissa King recently participated in a series of mock trials, presented by the Custer County Bar Association in honor of Law Day. Four mock trials were staged in front of more than 300 local fifth grade students. Adams and King played the role of Kris "Shooter" Jones, a high school soccer star charged with texting while driving, resulting in a motor vehicle accident.

  • Mart Tisdal Receives Eugene Kuntz Award

    Clinton attorney Mart Tisdal was recently recognized as the 2013 Eugene Kuntz Award recipient at the annual Eugene Kuntz Conference on Natural Resources Law and Policy in Oklahoma City. The Eugene Kuntz Award was established in 1993 to honor Eugene Kuntz, a national expert on oil and gas law, former dean, and oil and gas law professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. The award is sponsored by the University of Oklahoma College of Law, and is presented annually to an attorney that has made major contributions to the field of natural resources law and policy. The Eugene Kuntz Award is one of the most respected awards given to attorneys in the field.

    Tisdal is a 1966 graduate of Clinton High School, a 1970 graduate of the University of Oklahoma and a 1976 graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He has been practicing law in Clinton since 1988. In 2010, he, along with Pat O'Hara and Patrick O'Hara, Jr., formed the firm of Tisdal & O'Hara, which has offices in both Oklahoma City and Clinton.

    Tisdal is a member of both the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Attorneys Mutual Insurance Company and the Board of Visitors of the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He is also a fellow with the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Association, and the Oklahoma Bar Foundation. In 2011 and 2013, Tisdal was named Oklahoma Lawyer of the Year in Oil and Gas Law by Best Lawyers in America. Additionally, in 2012 he was named Oklahoma Lawyer of the Year in Mass Tort Litigation by Best Lawyers in America.

    Tisdal serves clients in a wide array of practice areas including oil and gas law and complex civil litigation in the areas of ad valorem taxation of energy-related property, business law, commercial disputes, and county government representation. He and his wife, Marian, reside in Clinton.

  • Cy Pres Funds Distributed to Educational and Civic Recipients

    TISDAL & O'HARA partners Mart Tisdal, Pat O'Hara, and Patrick O'Hara, Jr. recently distributed over $200,000 to various educational and civic recipients, including the Erick, Oklahoma Public Schools; Mangum, Oklahoma Public Schools; Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Sayre, Oklahoma; Beckham County Drug Court; Legal Aid of Western Oklahoma; Sayre Memorial Hospital, Great Plains Regional Medical Center; the Washita/Custer County Drug Court; and the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma for Beckham and Greer Counties. These funds were approved for distribution by District Judge Doug Haught in an Order dated May 23, 2012, as part of a cy pres class action distribution in Dodson v. Phillips Petroleum, Case No. CJ-2004-119, Beckham County, Oklahoma.

    The cy pres doctrine originated at common law. Today, the cy pres doctrine is utilized by courts in the class action context to direct funds that are not being distributed to individual class members to their "next best use." These distributions come as a direct result of the resolution of the above captioned case by class counsel Mart Tisdal, Pat O'Hara and Patrick O'Hara, Jr. of TISDAL & O'HARA, PLLC., and by Order of the District Court for Beckham County, Oklahoma.

    TISDAL & O'HARA attorneys and staff participated in the Relay For Life of Custer County, an American Cancer Society fundraiser held on April 20-21, 2012. The event raised $111,000 in support of cancer research, and team TISDAL & O'HARA was recognized as a "Bronze Team" for its fundraising efforts.
